Welcome to MEMS@MIT

We are a collection of faculty/staff/students working in the broad area of Micro/nano systems and MEMS. This Center was created to serve as a forum for collecting intellectually-synergistic but organizationally diverse groups of researchers at MIT. In addition, we have organized an industrial interaction mechanism to catalyze the transfer of knowledge to the larger MEMS community.

Currently, MEMS @ MIT is comprised of more than 165 faculty/staff/students, working on a broad research agenda and supported by more than $15M/year of research contracts. Additionally, we share a set of world-class design, fabrication, and test facilities, including the more than 6,500 sq.ft. of cleanrooms that are managed by the Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL).

MEMS Center Faculty Receive Awards and Honors

Professor Klavs Jensen, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, is among the 212 new fellows recently elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies and independent policy research centers. Read more about this award

Professor Ali Khademhosseini, assistant professor of Medicine and Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard-MIT's Division of Health Sciences and Technology, has been awarded the 2008 LaMer Award of the American Chemical Society. As a recognition of this accomplishment he will be giving the LaMer plenary lecture at the ACS Colloids & Surface Science Symposium at NC State University. Learn more

Professor Evelyn Wang, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has received the DARPA Young Faculty Award. The highly competitive award is given to faculty who are identified as 'rising stars in university microsystems research.'

Professor Patrick Doyle, associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, was awarded an MIT Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation Grant for his project entitled, Rapid Multiplexed Analysis for Molecular Diagnostics.

Professor Carl Thompson, Stavros Salapatas Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, was recently named one of the 34 members of the inaugural class of Fellows of the Materials Research Society. The title 'honors members of the Materials Research Society (MRS) who are notable for their distinguished accomplishments and their outstanding contributions to the advancement of materials research, worldwide.'
