MEMS@MIT Open House

Symposium:

MEMS for Implantable Medical Devices

The Spring 2008 MEMS Center Open House was held on April 22-23 on the MIT Campus.

The two-day Open House began with a full day focused conference on Tuesday, April 22. The conference was entitled MEMS for Implantable Medical Devices. During this conference, we heard from researchers engaged in cutting edge activities such as Professor John Wyatt, MIT - Steps Toward the Development of a Chronic Retinal Implant.  The symposium also featured Professor Mark G. Allen, Georgia Institute of Technology, Co-Founder of CardioMEMS, whose talk was entitled, Implantable Wireless Pressure Sensors for Monitoring Aneurysmal Disease and Congestive Heart Failure, MIT graduate (advisor: Professor Robert Langer) Dr. John T. Santini, President & CEO, Founder of MicroChips, who spoke on The Evolution of Implantable MEMS Reservoir Array Technologies from Academia to Commercialization and Dr. Tim Denison, Senior Principle Design Engineer, Medtronic, whose talk was titled, Tools for Debugging the Nervous System:  Sensor Constraints and Strategies for Neuromodulation Devices.

The second day of the Open House featured our semi-annual board meeting which incorporated the poster session for the Spring. During the board meeting, we reviewed recent new activities in the Center with an eye towards identifying opportunities for members to engage with these new programs. We also reviewed recent results and IP generated by Center members. Lastly, and most importantly, we held a focused poster session where members interacted with students and faculty whose research highlighted cutting edge applications in MEMS.

Review the full program.  Slides of the Symposium and IAB presentations are available on the Members Only site.
